LOCATION: Cong, Co Mayo, IRELAND.
by way of introducing myself my name is Dr. David Sutton and I am a lecturer in the Department of Applied Science in the Limerick Institute of Technology, Ireland. I am the secretary of the World Varsities Trout Fly Fishing Competition Committee and the inaugural competition will be held on Lough Corrib, Ireland on the 28th and 29th of August 2010. The committee are in the process of contacting colleges/universities and alumni with regard to entering a team in this competition.
This inaugural competition is by invitation only and places are limited and will be granted on a first come first served basis. A team consists of 2 anglers comprising of a member of staff, a current student or an alumni. In the interests of conservation, the competition will be ‘catch and release’ with points awarded for trout length. Fly-fishing from a drifting boat will be the method of choice for this competition. All fly-fishing techniques are permissible including wet fly, dry fly and dapping.
The cost of the competition is 250 euro per person for 2 nights and 290 euro per person for 3 nights. The price covers Bed and Breakfast for 2 or 3 nights, packed lunch, dinner, boat and local fishing guide (or gillie) for 2 days. Entrants are allowed source sponsorship to lower the costs involved in coming to this competition.
The impetus for this competition is the committee’s keen interest in game angling and to build links with international colleges/universities and like minded individuals. This is a non-profit making event and a non-commercial venture. Any surplus monies will be used to build the event in years to come.
Further details pertaining to the competition are detailed in the attached brochure and on a web site hosted by the Limerick Institute of Technology (www.lit.ie/worldvarsitiesfishing ).
