Czech Nymph on a French leader

French nymphing with a very long leader was disclosed at the World Championship in Spain (2003) and in 2004 Czech observers could see even more of it during the World Championship in Slovakia. Long French leaders were used in the Czech Republic at the fly fishing competitions in the following year and this new way became immediately successful. This proved in the team competition at the World Championship in New Zealand (January 2008), where the Czechs won both team and the individual competition. The main cause of this clear victory was just "hybridization" of Czech and French nymphing techniques. Czech competitors used very long leaders (7 - 9 m) in combination with tree weighted nymphs and ten feet long rods class 5 - 6 AFTMA. Even if it almost looked like that the Czech school exhausted its possibilities, just the combination with French elements opened new ways which I would like to mention shortly.
An Attempt to an Analysis of the Success Rate of Competitors Based on their Beats at EC in Slovakia 2013
- Details
Karel Křivanec and Martin Musil
We are quite sure that our attempt to the analysis of the impact of beats on final positions of competitors at the recent European Championship in Slovakia is limited by many factors which we cannot reflect in this analysis. It is also a question what kind of quality competitors meet at the particular beat or what the weather and changes of water level during the three days of competitions were.
For this analysis, we have used only the data regarding the total place of the competitor at his beat and these results are in tables from individual venues. The first number is the competitor´s placing and the second number is the number of fish caught. With respect to the fact that also one Bulgarian competitor took part in the competition, other beats had to be occupied by domestic anglers who were not counted among the official results, but the Slovak organizers published also their unofficial results which were used for this analysis. Some results of these individuals are hard to explain and with respect to the fact that they were often significantly better than the results of domestic competitors, it´s up to readers to make their own judgement why it was so.
Foreword by international organizer

Dear Friends and Anglers,
After three years as a top event in the royal angling discipline, the World Fly Fishing Championship is coming back to South Bohemia – this time centred in Frymburk. We are very proud that the organization of this event was awarded to the South-Bohemian Regional Board of the Czech Anglers Union. It is in appreciation of the long-term active participation of Czech representatives in the international fly fishing sport, the annual successes of our competitors, the long-term care of our salmonid fisheries in South Bohemia and also the very successful organization of the European Championship in 2011.
Competitions will take place in the Vltava river, reservoir Lipno II in Vyšší Brod and on the Kvetonov reservoir near Kaplice between 27 May and 2 June 2014. The preparations for the event have already started. All important meetings have been held and in spring 2013 we stocked 60,000 pc of year-old grayling and 20,000 pc of year-old brown trout.
If I want to raise three topics which have influenced me the most during all three fly fishing championships in this year and which are important also for the organization of our championship then I must mention very good organization and fair-play, unpredictable weather and modern technologies.
